We’ve had that certain something for over 50 years. Our long and successful history is known throughout D.C. and beyond. And, we can say for sure that there’s no place like Chevy Chase Ballroom. We are confident in our faculty, training methods and friendly teaching style. Our time-tested track record helps us create the kind of dance that draws you in and captures your imagination.

Get to the Studio by Metro

Take the Red Line metro to Friendship Heights. Exit the station via Jennifer Street Exit (opposite of the mall exit). Right on Wisconsin Avenue to Ingomar St. (first signal for crossing). Cross the street and continue down Wisconsin Avenue for another half block to 5207 Wisconsin Avenue. The ballroom is on the 2nd floor, all the way down the corridor on the left.

Parking

There is free two-hour parking on the residential streets behind the studio, 42nd Street and Ingomar Street. There is also metered parking on Harrison.

Irina Sarukhanyan

Owner, Dance for the Cure Founder, Yuletide Ball Co-Organizer

Irina Sarukhanyan is a world-class professional dancer with a down-to-earth teaching style. Her impressive achievements on the competitive circuit are matched only by her passion for sharing her knowledge and talents. Irina takes the time to mentor her teaching staff, overseeing the curriculum for each and every class. With her dedication, fiery spirit and welcoming attitude, it’s easy to see that Irina is the heart and soul of Chevy Chase Ballroom.

Ellen Porter

Instructor
Ellen began her competitive career at the age of five with competitive jump roping and numerous sports before falling in love with ballroom dancing. For the last eight years, Ellen has competed on a national level in lnternational Standard & Latin and American Smooth, and has been a finalist in numerous Professional Rising Star Standard events throughout the country. Since 2011, Ellen has furthered her love of teaching, working with beginners and competitors alike, while coaching collegiate teams at the Unlversity of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and George Washington University. She is now a vital and experienced member of the CCB teaching staff.

Yuko Naululani Yu

Studio Adminstrator
A dancing enthusiast, Yuko moved to Maryland from Hawaii in 2008 to start competitive dancing with her husband Tom. Yuko and Tom competes Senior International Ballroom Championships nationally and Internationally. Their achievements includes; NDCA Amateur National Champions, USA Dance National Champions, United States Dance Championships Champions, WDC-AL World Championships Bronze medalists, Blackpool UK Open Semi-Finalists.

Dmytro Churchun

Instructor
Dymtro began to dance at the age of 6, participating in and winning many Ukrainian national and international competitions. In 2006, began studying with one of the best trainers in Ukraine. Dmytro began to teach dance in 2009. In 2012, he was selected for the Paralympic Team of Ukraine, where he trained and danced with wheelchair-bound people. His students have won many national and international competitions. Also, Dmytro placed in the top 10 dancers for the World Championship in Italy in 2015, and 7th place of the European Championship in Poland in 2014. In 2017, he joined Chevy Chase Ballroom. Dmytro currently represents Chevy Chase Ballroom in professional competitions with his partner Alina Zavidova.

Alina Zavidova

Instructor
Alina was born in Russia and began her dance training with ballet, crossing over to her true passion of ballroom dancing. In the US, she taught in the DC metro area, winning many Pro/Am competitions with students. After moving to Las Vegas, she coached professional boxing referees and Cirque du Soleil artists in dancing! Alina made her way back to the east coast and now dances professionally with Dmytro Churchun. They currently compete in International Ballroom and have made finals in several US competitions. She enjoys working with students of all levels in International and American styles.

Ron Bennett

Yuletide Ball Co-organizer
Ron has enjoyed a career in ballroom which spans over 5 decades. As a teacher, coach, competitor, judge, organizer and studio owner, Ron has done it all! More than 40 years after he started the studio, Ron passed the torch of ownership to Irina in 2010. He continues to teach private lessons and group classes, and to inspire a whole new generation of dancers.

Gaby was born in Queens, NY and found her passion for dance when she was introduced to the world of ballroom at the age of 8. She trained in Brooklyn, NY among an array of amazing dancers and began competing nationally. At the age of 13, Gaby joined a salsa dance studio, Mambo Bravo,and became a part of the co-ed performance pro team and the all-women's performance pro team, Dulce Bembe. Traveling nationally to perform at many salsa congresses she continued to dance into her college years. Moving to DC 5 years ago, she found a Georgetown University salsa team where she continued to develop and strengthen new skills, teach and choreograph, and direct the team.

Karina Smirnoff
